Legendary entertainer and activist Charly Boy, famously known as Area Fada, has opened up about his battle with prostate cancer and the transformative journey that followed. Now in his 70s, the iconic figure has turned his personal struggle into a mission to support men’s health through the newly launched Charly Boy Foundation.

In a heartfelt interview at his Lagos home, Charly Boy recounted the symptoms that marked the beginning of his journey, such as frequent urination, incontinence, and mental anguish. Despite normal PSA test results, his condition worsened until he underwent life-saving surgery in 2023 at Lagos’ Reddington Hospital. “I was lucky it was caught at Stage 1,” he said, adding that the experience was a wake-up call for men to prioritise their health.

The entertainer’s ordeal highlighted a troubling reality: many men suffer in silence, conditioned to suppress vulnerability. “We’ve been told to ‘man up’ and hide our pain, but that mindset is killing us,” he noted. Inspired by his journey and encouraged by tech mogul Leo Stan Ekeh, Charly Boy founded the Charly Boy Foundation to break the stigma surrounding men’s health.

The foundation focuses on:

Raising Awareness: Educating men on the importance of early diagnosis and regular checkups.

Financial Support: Subsidising diagnostic tests (₦50,000–₦100,000) and advanced treatments through partnerships with hospitals in Lagos, Abuja, and Eastern Nigeria.

Mental Health Advocacy: Offering access to professionals to help men cope with the psychological toll of health challenges.

“Our goal is simple: no man should fight this battle alone,” Charly Boy said. He urged Nigerians to support the cause, emphasizing that collective action can save lives.

For Charly Boy, this foundation is more than a campaign—it’s a legacy. “This isn’t just about me; it’s about changing the narrative for the next generation. Vulnerability is strength, and men must know that seeking help is not a weakness.”

With his powerful story and commitment to change, Charly Boy is paving the way for a future where men’s health is prioritised and celebrated. His message is clear: prostate cancer is not a death sentence if caught early.

“Open up, get tested, and take charge of

your health,” he urged. “Your life is worth it.”
