Nearly six years after Chadwick Boseman‘s death, his brothers Kevin and Derrick are taking legal action to have his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, removed as administrator of his estate, citing alleged mismanagement and a lack of communication with the family. The brothers filed a petition in Los Angeles court claiming that Ledward has left the family in the dark about the estate’s status despite a 2022 court order guaranteeing their parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, a combined 50% share.
The 2022 order came after Boseman died intestate, without a will, in August 2020 at age 43. California law dictated that his estate be split between his widow and his parents, with Ledward retaining the other half. But the brothers allege that Ledward has failed to properly distribute assets and has continued controlling everything on her own. The estate includes residuals, royalties, image and IP rights, investments, and over $3 million in various bank accounts.
The brothers claim their mother has been left without a long-term care insurance policy she’s entitled to, and the family has been unable to pursue business opportunities related to Chadwick’s legacy. They also allege that Ledward has not properly closed and distributed funds from bank accounts or accounted for SAG-AFTRA residual payments earned after his death.
The brothers are asking the court to hold Ledward in contempt, force her to distribute the remaining assets and provide a full accounting within 30 days, permanently remove her as administrator and appoint attorney Jason Rubin, and require her to pay the family’s legal fees. They also want to bar her from signing major contracts involving the estate without the family’s approval.
