Carrot Top’s legal team is accusing Brian Evans of attempting to extort the comedian over a sexually explicit recording weeks before his reported suicide attempt. In a court filing obtained, the comedian’s lawyer claimed Evans threatened to place the recording on the public court docket unless Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, agreed to a $500,000 settlement.
According to exhibits attached to the September 3 filing, Evans disputed that his messages amounted to a threat and said the possibility of media coverage was simply a foreseeable consequence of filing documents publicly. He reportedly offered a $500,000 payment in exchange for resolving all claims against Thompson. Carrot Top’s legal team, however, characterized the communication as an attempt to expose the comedian to public embarrassment in order to obtain money.
The legal dispute comes as Carrot Top remains hospitalized in Las Vegas following a reported suicide attempt on September 18. His representative said the 61-year-old comedian is recovering and receiving the care and support he needs, while asking for privacy for him and his family. His scheduled Las Vegas performances were subsequently canceled. The extortion allegation is a claim by Carrot Top’s legal team and has not been established as a criminal finding.
