Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye made a spectacular impact on his CAF Confederation Cup debut, scoring as Enyimba secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Black Bulls of Mozambique in Uyo.
It was a sweet revenge for the Nigerian side, who had been defeated by Black Bulls in Maputo last month. Enyimba wasted no time making their mark, with Joseph Atule firing them into the lead just six minutes into the match. However, the Mozambicans responded quickly, drawing level through Nigerian Ejaita Ifoni just moments later.
Enyimba regained the advantage in the dying seconds of the first half, as Ifeanyi Ihemekwele’s header gave them a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Ideye, coming off the bench in the 68th minute, displayed his class and composure when he rounded the Black Bulls goalkeeper and calmly slotted the ball into the net to make it 3-1.
The final blow came in the 90th minute when Atule sealed his brace with a brilliant solo goal to make it 4-1, ensuring all three points for Enyimba.
The victory moves Enyimba up to third in their group with four points from four matches, keeping their hopes alive in the competition.
CHAN Eagles to Discover 2024 CHAN Opponents on January 15
Meanwhile, the CHAN Eagles will learn their first-round opponents for the 2024 CHAN on January 15 in Kenya. The draw for the delayed competition will take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi. Nigeria, who have not participated in the competition for the last six years, are one of 18 teams awaiting their group stage fate.
