Brittany Cartwright has been granted a temporary restraining order against her estranged husband, Jax Taylor, amid their ongoing divorce. According to court documents obtained, Cartwright filed the request in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, alleging a long history of domestic violence, including a recent incident where Taylor threatened to “gut” her “like a f***en fish”.
The judge granted the petition, ordering Taylor to stay 100 yards away from Cartwright. However, her request for sole custody of their 5-year-old son, Cruz, was denied pending a court hearing scheduled for September 17.
In her declaration, Cartwright detailed what she described as a decade-long pattern of abuse by Taylor. She accused him of “coercive control, financial abuse, emotional and psychological abuse, gaslighting and even physical violence”. The document also claims Taylor threatened to kill her, threw furniture at her, causing injury, and destroyed property, including three of her iPhones and an iPad.
Cartwright also alleged Taylor has engaged in stalking behavior, including accessing her iPhone and Instagram account without consent and deleting messages. She also claims he took her $70,000 wedding ring and has refused to return it. The filing further states that Taylor has used child and spousal support issues to intimidate her and has called her derogatory names in private and in front of their son.
The latest alleged incident occurred on August 26, the day before Cartwright filed the restraining order. She stated in her filing that she is in “genuine fear of my safety and my peace of mind” . Photos filed with the court and obtained show a bruised knee and damaged furniture that Cartwright says came from a July 2024 fight where Taylor flipped a coffee table, striking her. At the time, Taylor admitted he went “full expletive unhinged, rage” and later checked into a mental health facility, where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD.
The restraining order comes amid their contentious divorce proceedings, which Cartwright initiated in August 2024.
