Italian actress Caterina Murino, best known for playing Solange opposite Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, is expecting her first child at age 47—and she’s calling it a “magical moment.”
The beloved Bond girl revealed she’s pregnant with a baby boy, due later this summer, just before her 48th birthday. The joyful news comes after an emotionally trying fertility journey marked by IVF treatments and two heartbreaking miscarriages.
“At my age, I had to ask medicine to help nature,” Murino told France’s Gala Magazine. “You don’t always decide when the right time to become a mother comes.”
Despite the challenges leading up to this point, Caterina says her pregnancy has been smooth.
“I haven’t had any discomfort, no diabetes, no insomnia,” she shared, adding that while she’s a little anxious about giving birth, she has faith in her medical team.
The actress—who’s been with her partner Edouard Rugaud for eight years—reflected on her new chapter in Italy’s Costa Smeralda, describing it as transformative.
“I feel I am living a magical moment. Soon I will become a mother, and I believe we all have a huge responsibility today: to raise conscious human beings.”
Caterina also reflected on her legacy as the first Bond girl in the Daniel Craig era, saying she didn’t grasp the full impact of the role until later in her career.
“It was a tremendous opportunity… Today, I look back at it with gratitude—not so much for the glamour, but for the chance it gave me to build an international career.”
The Garden of Eden star even shared that the intensity of her Casino Royale scene with Craig sparked unexpected drama:
“When he kissed me in the film… it must have looked very real, because among the many fan letters I got was a death threat from someone who was jealous.”
Now, years after conquering Hollywood, Caterina is about to embrace her biggest role yet—motherhood.
