Fans of Bluey have been hit with surprising news as creator Joe Brumm announces his departure from the beloved kids’ show after six years. Brumm, who brought the Australian animated series to life in 2018, will shift his focus to the highly anticipated Bluey feature film, set to release in 2027.
The show, which follows the adorable Blue Heeler puppy Bluey and her family, has gained worldwide acclaim for its heartfelt portrayal of modern family life and positive parenting messages. Since Blueymade its UK debut in 2021 on CBeebies, it has become a household favorite.
In a heartfelt message to fans, Brumm explained his decision: “After some time spent away from the series, working on another project, an old idea resurfaced and before I knew it, I’d written a Blueyfeature script that I really love.” He added that he felt he couldn’t continue working on the TV series if he couldn’t produce a season as strong as the last. “This would have been the case for me with a potential season four,” Brumm said, confirming that the episode The Sign would be his final contribution to the series.
However, Brumm reassured fans that Bluey’s future remains bright, as he steps away to focus on the film. Disney is currently developing the Bluey movie, which is expected to make its big-screen debut in 2027.
