What began as a viral accusation of racial bias and mistreatment on the high seas has taken a sharp turn. Ashley Everett, the longtime dance captain for Beyoncé, has officially walked back her claims that she was “kicked off” a stage by staff during a recent cruise. The Ashley Everett Virgin Voyages cruise stage incident 2026 became a social media firestorm earlier this week, but Everett now admits her initial frustration was aimed at the wrong target.

The drama unfolded during a Virgin Voyages “Content Creator Cruise” in April 2026. Everett, who famously appeared in the “Single Ladies” music video, claimed she was dancing to that very song at the ship’s club, The Manor, when she was abruptly removed from the stage.

Taking to Threads on Tuesday, April 21, Everett expressed her outrage:

• The Removal: “I was kicked off the @virginvoyages club stage while dancing to the SINGLE LADIES song for the CONTENT CREATOR CRUISE I was INVITED ON — all because someone complained.”

• The Bias: She further alleged that while she was removed, “complaining white folks” were allowed onto the same stage immediately after.

• The “Sauce”: Everett initially accused the cruise line of wanting “Black creators and all their sauce” without actually acknowledging or respecting them.

As the story gained traction, Virgin Voyages clarified the situation, citing safety protocols rather than personal or racial bias. According to a statement from the cruise line, a large group of “Sailors” (guests) had joined the stage, which began to encroach on the DJ area. Crew members stepped in to move the entire group back to the dance floor for safety reasons, noting the decision was not directed at any specific individual.

By Wednesday, April 22, Everett changed her tune. In a follow-up post, she apologized to the cruise line and clarified that the conflict was actually with other guests, not the ship’s staff.

“After getting more clarity, I realized the situation I spoke about involved other guests—not the Virgin team. That part matters, and I take full responsibility for misdirecting that frustration. @virginvoyages, I sincerely apologize.” — Ashley Everett

Everett noted that Virgin Voyages had been “supportive and intentional” in resolving the misunderstanding. Despite the apology, Everett maintained that the trip fell short of her expectations, specifically noting that the cruise line failed to acknowledge her 37th birthday during the voyage.
