The boxing world has received a bittersweet update as the Anthony Joshua hospital discharge was officially confirmed on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. The former heavyweight champion was deemed “clinically fit” to continue his recovery from home after surviving the horrific road accident in Ogun State that claimed the lives of his strength coach, Sina Ghami, and trainer, Latif “Latz” Ayodele.
In a joint statement issued by the governments of Lagos and Ogun states, officials noted that while Joshua is physically stable, he remains “heavy-hearted and full of emotions.” Immediately following the Anthony Joshua hospital discharge from Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi, the boxer and his mother visited a funeral home in Lagos. There, they paid their final respects to Sina and Latz as preparations were finalized for the repatriation of their bodies back to the United Kingdom.
Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dapo Abiodun commended the medical team for their professionalism and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “fatherly support” throughout the crisis. While AJ begins his long road to emotional and physical recovery, the investigation into the crash continues, with the driver of the Lexus SUV potentially facing prosecution for reckless driving. For now, the champion is expected to remain in Nigeria to recuperate in private.
