Anne Hathaway has officially joined Tom Cruise in the upcoming sequel to the 1990 racing classic, ‘Days of Thunder 2’ .
The news was announced by Cruise himself via his social media platforms, alongside a photo of the two stars posing in front of a NASCAR race car at Daytona International Speedway. The announcement also revealed that the film is set for a theatrical release on June 2, 2028.
This marks a major milestone as the project has been fast-tracked as Cruise’s next film after the success of recent blockbusters. Paramount Pictures is moving forward with Jonathan Levine attached to direct from a script by Will Staples. Cruise will reprise his iconic role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle, while Hathaway is set to play a team owner and engineer.
The original ‘Days of Thunder,’ directed by Tony Scott, was a high-octane hit that paired Cruise with producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The sequel is expected to capture that same adrenaline-fueled energy, this time with a modern cinematic edge. Paramount has confirmed the movie will be filmed for IMAX and will also be available in Dolby Cinema, 4DX, and other premium large formats.
Hathaway’s role is crucial to the new story, positioning her as a key player in the high-stakes world of NASCAR. Production on the film is expected to begin in early 2027 to meet the Summer 2028 release date.
