Nollywood star Adedimeji Lateef has put fans at ease, assuring them that Lisabi Part 2 will premiere on Netflix as scheduled in January 2025. This announcement comes amidst swirling rumors about Netflix pulling out of Nigeria, which caused widespread concern among movie enthusiasts and filmmakers alike.
The drama began after celebrated director Kunle Afolayan revealed at the 2024 Zuma Film Festival that Netflix had ceased funding new Nigerian projects. While his own series, Anikulapo: The Rise of the Spectre, was unaffected due to prior approvals, many filmmakers reportedly found themselves stranded mid-production.
Netflix later responded to the uproar, clarifying that it is not exiting Nigeria but offering little detail on future funding plans. Despite the ambiguity, Lateef took to X (formerly Twitter) to set the record straight about Lisabi:
The internet was abuzz yesterday with unsettling news about our principal partners, Netflix. Many have reached out with concerns regarding LISABI – A LEGEND IS BORN… We’re pleased to announce that our relationship with the streaming platform is intact, and the second part of our blockbuster movie will hit Netflix in January as promised. Anticipate magic. Trailer and poster dropping soon.
Fans of Lisabi can breathe a sigh of relief knowing the epic story continues without delay. As anticipation builds, the upcoming release promises to deliver more of the cinematic magic that made the first part a hit. January can’t come soon enough!
