Cheikh Oumar Diakhate’s journey from a challenging childhood in Senegal to becoming one of fashion’s top models is a powerful story of resilience and determination.
Born in Tivaouane, Senegal, Cheikh grew up surrounded by his community’s cultural richness and strong family bonds. But life changed dramatically when, at just 10, his family relocated to Milan, Italy, hoping for better opportunities.

Adapting to life in Milan was no easy feat. As a young immigrant, Cheikh faced significant obstacles, including language barriers and intense racism, which led him to drop out of school. Life on the streets became his reality, forcing him to make tough decisions. “I was lost. I didn’t know where I was going,” he recalls. “But I knew I had to survive.”
Amidst the struggles, Cheikh found hope at a local community center, where he reflected on his life and began exploring his interest in fashion. His first big opportunity came through NOLOGO, an agency that provided him with early exposure. Yet financial pressures persisted, until a friend urged him to try for ÉLITE Milan, a renowned agency.

With the guidance of his new manager, Ruggero Quarto, Cheikh signed a three-year contract with ÉLITE Milan, launching him into the global fashion scene. His unique style and inspiring story soon captured the attention of top designers, and he graced the runways of iconic brands.
Today, Cheikh is a celebrated figure in fashion, known not just for his work but for his commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion. Grounded by his roots, he often shares his journey to encourage others facing adversity. His rise from Milan’s streets to international success is a testament to resilience and the belief that no dream is out of reach.
