The wellness world is facing a digital transformation. On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, reports surfaced that Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand, Goop, has laid off a portion of its workforce. The move is part of a broader corporate restructuring aimed at streamlining operations and embracing artificial intelligence (AI) to drive future growth.

According to reports from Puck, the recent Goop layoffs Gwyneth Paltrow AI pivot were driven by a dual focus on long-term profitability and the integration of AI workflows. While the exact number of affected employees has not been publicly disclosed, sources close to the matter suggest the cuts impacted various departments as the company seeks to automate data-heavy support functions and content production.

The shift isn’t entirely unexpected for those following Paltrow’s recent business ventures. In 2024, she became a co-owner of Moments of Space, an AI-powered meditation app. This latest internal pivot suggests that the “Goop-iverse” is moving away from a traditional labor-heavy editorial model toward a tech-forward platform that leverages AI to personalize user experiences and “clean” lifestyle recommendations.

This isn’t the first time Goop has tightened its belt. In late 2024, the company laid off approximately 18% of its staff to refocus on its core pillars: fashion, beauty, and food. The 2026 layoffs appear to be an extension of that “lean” philosophy, further moving the brand away from its early niche as a new-age wellness newsletter and toward a high-end, efficient retail and technology empire.

The restructuring also follows the end of Goop’s mass-market experiment. In 2025, the brand wound down its “Good Clean Goop” line at Target to double down on its premium Goop Beauty offerings at Ulta and its own digital storefront. Analysts suggest that by cutting overhead and investing in AI, Paltrow is positioning the company to compete with a new wave of science-backed, tech-integrated health startups.

What does an AI-powered Goop look like? Insiders suggest the company is exploring AI-driven skincare analysis, automated community management, and personalized health tracking. While some critics argue that the brand’s “cultish appeal” relies on the human touch and Paltrow’s personal curation, the CEO seems convinced that technology is the next frontier of the wellness journey.
