Cody Simpson Vocal Cord Hemorrhage Forces Singer Into Silence

The timing couldn’t be worse. Just two months after releasing his comeback single “Baby Blue,” Cody Simpson revealed he is dealing with a serious vocal cord hemorrhage that has left him unable to sing. The 29-year-old Australian singer shared the news on Instagram, explaining the injury has forced him to cancel TV and radio performances and pause work on his upcoming album.

Simpson said the hemorrhage occurred just over a month ago. The cause? He sang through a sinus infection he did not even know he had, pushing his voice past its limit.

The Cody Simpson vocal cord hemorrhage diagnosis came after he ignored warning signs. “I assumed it was just fatigue and kept showing up to the studio until one day I could no longer sing,” he wrote. Doctors have now prescribed two weeks of complete vocal rest in hopes of avoiding surgery, which would demand a much longer recovery process.

The injury has completely derailed promotion for “Baby Blue” and affected his ability to finish the album and polish upcoming singles. Simpson admitted he initially tried to keep the situation private but decided it was time to share what he has been going through with fans.

Despite being unable to sing, Simpson is refusing to stop creating. He is back in the studio working strictly as a lyricist on mute with collaborators, writing vocal melodies on guitar that he will eventually replace with his voice when able.

“Where there’s a will, there’s a way,” he wrote. Simpson called the emotional toll “extremely up and down” but said he is reframing this setback as a realignment for long-term good. He has asked fans whether they would like him to start sharing some of what he has already finished while he continues recovering.

The singer returned to music in March after a hiatus focused on competitive swimming, where he represented Australia in the lead-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics. Now his voice needs time to heal before the comeback can truly begin.
