The Savannah Guthrie Today Show return brought tears of relief to fans Monday morning as the beloved anchor stepped back into Studio 1A. Dressed in a bright yellow dress with a matching heart necklace, Guthrie greeted co-host Craig Melvin with a simple but powerful message: “It is good to be home” . Her return comes more than two months after her 84-year-old mother, Nancy, vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home in what authorities believe was a kidnapping .
The Savannah Guthrie mom missing case has gripped the nation since Nancy disappeared on January 31. She was last seen after a family dinner, dropped off at her home around 9:48 p.m.. By 2:28 a.m., her pacemaker app disconnected from her phone, the moment authorities believed she was taken. The FBI has joined local investigators, but no suspects have been identified, and leads have yet to produce breakthroughs. The family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery.
Before her return, Guthrie sat down with former co-host Hoda Kotb in an emotional interview. She admitted returning to the upbeat morning show felt daunting. “I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not. But I can’t not come back, because it’s my family,” she said. She added, “I will not let them take my joy. My joy will be my protest” .
On Easter Sunday, Guthrie delivered a recorded message to her church, Good Shepherd New York. She spoke candidly about her shaken faith. “There are moments when life itself seems far harder than death,” she said. She questioned whether Jesus experienced “this grievous and uniquely cruel injury of not knowing, of uncertainty and confusion”. Despite the darkness, she closed with conviction: “I still believe”.
Guthrie jumped immediately back into the news Monday, declaring, “Well here we go, ready or not, let’s do the news” . Fans gathered outside Studio 1A holding welcome-back signs. The search for Nancy continues with no end in sight.
