Cardi B Lawsuit Dismissed: $50M Copyright Case Thrown Out by Texas Judge

The courtroom streak continues. A Texas federal judge has thrown out a $50 million copyright infringement lawsuit against Cardi B, marking the second major legal victory for the Grammy-winning rapper in just months.

U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez dismissed the case on March 30, ruling that the plaintiffs, producers Joshua Fraustro and Miguel Aguilar, failed to establish proper jurisdiction and lacked a registered copyright when they first filed suit in July 2024. The Cardi B lawsuit dismissed order cited fatal deficiencies in the producers’ claims that her 2024 single “Enough (Miami)” copied their track “Greasy Frybread.”

The producers alleged that Cardi B’s hit song “unlawfully duplicated” their work, which gained recognition after appearing on the FX series Reservation Dogs. They claimed the release damaged their reputation and left them “blacklisted” in the music industry.

But Cardi’s legal team identified a fundamental problem: “Greasy Frybread” was not registered with the U.S. Copyright Office at the time of the lawsuit. The producers only secured registration in October 2025, more than a year after filing, which the court ruled could not retroactively fix the deficiency.

The plaintiffs attempted to anchor the case in Texas by pointing to Cardi B’s concert performances in the state. Judge Rodriguez rejected the argument, noting that performing in Texas as part of a nationwide tour does not establish the kind of continuous presence required for jurisdiction.

The judge further stated that allowing amendments to the complaint would be “futile,” effectively closing the door on the case in its current form.

The dismissal follows another courtroom win from September, when a Los Angeles jury found Cardi B not liable in a $24 million assault and battery lawsuit brought by a former security guard over a 2018 incident outside a medical office.

“Obviously, we are very pleased with today’s order and appreciate the court’s careful consideration of the issues,” said Lisa F. Moore, Cardi’s attorney.

Meanwhile, the rapper continues her Little Miss Drama Tour, which runs through April 18. With two major lawsuits now behind her, the focus returns to where it belongs: the music.
