The Orillia Museum of Art and History (OMAH) has launched its official OMAH Fashion Forward Call for Artists for its highly anticipated 2026 exhibit. The annual event challenges artists, designers, and makers to transform local histories and museum objects into bold, wearable works of art, blending creativity with cultural heritage. The final runway event is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026.
This year’s ambitious theme is “From Artefact to Eco-Act.” It requires participants to draw direct inspiration from artefacts in OMAH’s permanent collection while committing to sustainability. Artists are strongly encouraged to utilize found, repurposed, and recycled materials, celebrating innovative fashion that connects local history with environmental consciousness.
OMAH is welcoming submissions from individuals and collaborative teams across all experience levels, including students and youth artists. Ninette Gyorody, Executive Director, stated the goal is to see artists interpret the museum’s collection in “bold and imaginative ways.” Interested creators must submit their detailed project proposals, including concept sketches and materials lists, by the deadline.
The OMAH Fashion Forward Call for Artists submission deadline is Friday, December 19, 2025. By integrating art, heritage, and sustainability, OMAH aims to position the event as a unique platform for emerging and established creators, ensuring the exhibition continues to move conversation and creativity beyond the traditional art gallery setting.
