Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake is at the center of controversy after his former manager, Tunde Phoenix, accused him of losing over $4 million in performance and endorsement deals due to “laziness and greed.”
Phoenix made the shocking allegations in a recent interview, claiming that Asake’s unprofessional behavior led to the cancellation of several high-profile gigs.
Tunde Phoenix’s Allegations
According to Naija247news, Phoenix stated:
“Asake’s laziness and greed cost him opportunities that could have taken his career to the next level. He refused to attend rehearsals and demanded unreasonable fees, which led to the cancellation of major deals.”
He further alleged that Asake became “uncooperative and difficult to manage,” prioritizing quick money over long-term growth.
Asake’s Camp Responds
A source close to Asake has dismissed the allegations as “baseless and vindictive,” insisting that the singer remains committed to his music.
Meanwhile, Asake’s current management team has released a statement, describing Phoenix’s claims as:
“Unfounded and an attempt to tarnish his reputation. Asake remains focused on delivering quality music and performances to his fans.”
Industry Reactions
The allegations have sparked debate among fans and music industry stakeholders. Some believe Phoenix’s claims hold weight, while others question his credibility and motives.
Industry experts say the situation highlights the importance of professionalism and transparency in artist-manager relationships. A music executive commented:
“Clear communication and mutual respect are essential in managing an artist’s career.”
What’s Next for Asake?
Despite the controversy, Asake continues to dominate the music scene with hit songs like “Lonely At The Top” and “Amapiano.” His fanbase, the “Asake Warriors,” remains loyal, and his career shows no signs of slowing down.
For now, the Nigerian music industry watches closely as the drama unfolds. Will Asake respond directly, or will he let his success speak for itself? Only time will tell.
