The legal troubles of Ezekiel Onyedikachi, former manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, deepened as a Federal High Court in Lagos ruled that the arrest warrant issued against him remains valid.

Court Rejects Excuses, Demands His Presence

Justice Alexander Owoeye reaffirmed the warrant on Monday, February 17, 2025, after Onyedikachi failed to appear in court. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had secured the warrant on January 16, following accusations that Onyedikachi fraudulently diverted $345,000 in royalties meant for Mercy Chinwo.

Despite his lawyer, Dr. Monday Ubani, assuring the court that Onyedikachi would attend the proceedings, he remained absent—this time citing a car accident on the morning of the hearing.

Prosecution Calls Onyedikachi’s Absence a ‘Show of Shame’

The prosecution, led by Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), wasn’t buying the excuse. Oyedepo slammed Onyedikachi for disrespecting the court, pointing out that he had been spotted giving media interviews after a previous hearing, despite claiming he was unavailable for trial.

Next Hearing Set for March 6

Justice Owoeye stood firm, maintaining that the court cannot assume jurisdiction until Onyedikachi physically appears for arraignment. The court upheld the bench warrant, making it clear that Onyedikachi must present himself at the next hearing on March 6 or face further legal consequences.
