During his electrifying Super Bowl halftime performance, Kendrick Lamar took a bold jab at Drakeamid the Canadian rapper’s ongoing lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG).
Lamar set the internet on fire when he teased the intro to his viral diss track “Not Like Us” but abruptly stopped, smirking as he told the crowd:
“I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue.”
This was a clear reference to Drake’s lawsuit, in which he accuses UMG of defamation, harassment, and unethical business practices related to the song’s promotion.
Lamar Still Went for the Kill
Despite the legal drama, K.Dot didn’t hold back. He eventually performed “Not Like Us” in full, even delivering the scathing line:
“Say Drake, I heard you like ’em young,”
while making direct eye contact with the camera. However, he avoided saying “pedophile” on-air, likely sidestepping any further legal complications.
Drake’s Legal Team Responds
Hours before the performance, Drake’s lawyers issued a statement, obtained by The New York Times, slamming UMG:
“UMG is masquerading as a champion of artistic freedom by calling its actions merely ‘entertainment,’ but there is nothing entertaining about pedophilia or child abuse in the real world.”
They also claimed that evidence will expose UMG’s prioritization of profits over its artists’ well-being.
Drake Was MIA—But the Internet Was Watching
Drake, currently in Australia for his Anita Max Win tour, missed both Lamar’s Super Bowl moment and his Grammy sweep. However, with over 60 million viewers tuned into the Super Bowl, this halftime stunt is bound to fuel their legal battle—and might even make its way into court proceedings.
One thing is clear: Kendrick Lamar isn’t backing down anytime soon.
