Drake had a rough night during the 2025 Grammy Awards, even though he didn’t attend. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd had a big night—Lamar won five Grammys, including Song of the Year for his Drake diss track “Not Like Us,” and The Weeknd performed his latest single on stage.
DJ Akademiks, known for his controversial takes, suggested during a Monday night live stream that the Grammys were used by Universal Music Group (UMG) to send Drake a message: “Fck you and fck off.”
Is UMG Turning on Drake?
Akademiks pointed out that Lucian Grainge (UMG CEO) and Dr. Dre were caught high-fiving after Lamar’s wins, hinting at possible industry manipulation. He also speculated that The Weeknd, who had previously boycotted the Grammys alongside Drake, was now back in their good gracesbecause of UMG’s influence.
“You think Universal ain’t got nothing to do with that? Universal probably sat The Weeknd down and said, ‘Next year, you’re gonna get showered with awards,’” Ak claimed.
He emphasized that Lamar won as many Grammys in one night as Drake has in his entire career, suggesting that the ceremony was a way for the industry to move on from Drake.
Akademiks Stands by Drake
While breaking down the situation, Akademiks aligned himself with Drake, saying he understands what it’s like to have fake relationships in the industry.
“I was telling Drake about fake relationships,” he said. “I feel like I have fake relationships… I’m gonna sit here with the people who liked me.”
Is the Industry Moving On from Drake?
Akademiks’ theory suggests that UMG is prioritizing Kendrick and The Weeknd while subtly sidelining Drake. Whether that’s true or just industry politics, one thing is clear—Drake’s feud with Kendrick is far from over.
Do you think the Grammys were rigged against Drake? Or is this just conspiracy talk?
