Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Tems has pulled the plug on her “Born in the Wild” tour stop in Kigali, Rwanda, citing the escalating tensions between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The concert, originally scheduled for March 22, 2025, was scrapped after Tems became aware of the ongoing conflict. Apologizing to fans via Instagram, she admitted she hadn’t initially realized the severity of the situation.
“I recently promoted my show in Rwanda without realizing there is an ongoing conflict between Rwanda and Congo. I never intend to be insensitive to real-world issues, and I sincerely apologize if this came across that way,” she wrote.
The decision follows reports that the M23 rebel group, which broke away from the DRC army over a decade ago, has captured Goma, the capital of North Kivu province. Rwanda has been accused of backing the rebels, further fueling regional instability.
While fans in Rwanda may be disappointed, many have praised Tems’ sensitivity to the situation. What are your thoughts on her decision?
