In a nostalgic nod to the blog era, J. Cole has launched his own personal blog, The Algorithm, just hours before celebrating his 40th birthday. The Dreamville rapper unveiled the blog on his Inevitablewebsite on Monday (January 27), drawing comparisons to one of his biggest inspirations, Kanye West, who famously ran a blog in the late 2000s.
In his first post, Cole shared his excitement about finally creating a space for himself outside the crowded atmosphere of social media. He wrote:
“This is just a place for me to share. I been wanting a lil blog for years. Somewhere to post random shit I fuck with where the audience is way smaller than it is on the social media platforms. Finally pulled the trigger, bare with us as we still developing this page and the layout.”
For his debut post, J. Cole shared L.A. rapper Ahmad’s 1994 classic, “Back in the Day,” writing:
“Respect to AHMAD. I played this joint last night and was like ‘damn! there go my first post for the blog.’”
The rapper also reflected on turning 40, reminiscing about his childhood and expressing gratitude for life:
“Been loving this song since I was like 9 years old on Lewis Street begging my mom for a bike I heard about called a GT performer. Now at midnight I will turn 40. Might save the sentimentals for a post tomorrow. But in a nutshell I’m GRATEFUL. Happy new year to yall and God bless. 2025 will be a good one.”
Fans were quick to connect his optimism about 2025 to the possible release of his long-awaited album, The Fall Off, which Cole hinted might drop ahead of the Dreamville Festival in April. At his 10th anniversary concert for 2014 Forest Hills Drive in December, he teased the crowd, saying: “I’ll see y’all at Dreamville Festival. Hopefully I’ll have something new to perform for y’all.”
J. Cole isn’t the first rapper to explore blogging. Kanye West ran KanyeUniversecity.com until 2010, sharing his thoughts on fashion, music, and culture. Similarly, Tyler, The Creator had a blog between 2007 and 2010 before transitioning into mainstream stardom.
As J. Cole embarks on this new digital venture, fans eagerly await both his blog updates and the potential music releases hinted at in his reflective posts.
