Rihanna is standing by her partner, A$AP Rocky, as he faces a high-stakes criminal trial in Los Angeles. According to reports, the global superstar is planning to attend the court proceedings on Wednesday (January 29), potentially making her presence a major talking point during the trial.
Sources say Rihanna’s attendance at the downtown L.A. courthouse could create a media frenzy, with her presence expected to dominate headlines. While there’s no confirmation on what testimony will be heard that day, Rihanna is likely to sit in the public gallery alongside other attendees—a striking image given her superstar status.
Interestingly, Rihanna has already played an indirect role in the trial. During jury selection, potential jurors were asked if they were fans of the singer or owned any of her Fenty products—a testament to her influence and the possible effect her presence could have on the jury. Though jurors are instructed to remain impartial, her appearance in court may undoubtedly sway perceptions.
The trial centers around allegations that A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, shot his former friend, A$AP Relli, during a heated altercation in Hollywood in 2021. Rocky was charged with two felony counts of assault with a firearm in 2022 following his arrest at LAX after a trip to Barbados with Rihanna.
Rocky’s defense team, led by high-profile attorney Joe Tacopina, denies the accusations, calling them baseless and an attempt by Relli to extort his famous client. Despite the charges, Rocky rejected a plea deal that would have required him to serve 180 days in jail and three years of probation, instead opting to fight the charges in court. If convicted, the rapper faces up to 24 years in prison.
Rihanna’s decision to attend underscores her unwavering support for Rocky as he battles these legal challenges. All eyes will undoubtedly be on her as the trial unfolds.
