Blackface is taking fans down memory lane by reviving the iconic Plantashun Boiz name for his newly released solo album The Return. The defunct music group, which featured Blackface, 2Baba, and Faze, once captured hearts with their unique blend of hip-hop and R&B before disbanding in 2004. Though the group briefly reunited for a 2007 album, this latest move signals Blackface’s attempt to breathe new life into the legacy.

In an interview with TVC, Blackface revealed his decision to put his solo moniker, Blackface Naija, on hold indefinitely. “What I want to do now, going forward, is release music as Plantashun Boiz. You’re not going to see Blackface Naija on the shelf with a new song in a long time. It is going to be Plantashun Boiz,” he stated.

The project, The Return, features 18 to 19 tracks, including the emotional collaboration Emotions with Faze. However, 2Baba, the third member of the original group, is notably absent. Blackface explained that despite initial plans to work together, 2Baba declined to participate.

“He is not on the album because he does not want to come to be part of it,” Blackface shared. “We already had the time to go to the studio, but he doesn’t want it. If someone gives the impression they are not ready anymore, will you keep waiting or move ahead? So, I moved ahead.”

This isn’t the first time Blackface has publicly clashed with 2Baba. Since 2015, Blackface has repeatedly accused 2Baba of recording the 2004 hit African Queen without proper credit. In 2017, he alleged that 2Baba sabotaged his career. However, in October 2023, Blackface sought to bury the hatchet, asking for forgiveness for his “wrongdoings, knowingly or unknowingly.”

With The Return, Blackface hopes to keep the spirit of Plantashun Boiz alive, even if the full trio isn’t on board. For fans, it’s a nostalgic nod to the group’s golden era and a fresh chapter in the ever-evolving journey of Nigerian music.
