Nigerian music veteran Blackface has once again addressed claims of intellectual property theft in the entertainment industry, emphasizing that his accusations against fellow artists are rooted in truth. Speaking in a recent interview with TVC, the former member of the Plantashun Boiz group asserted that none of the artists he has accused of stealing his songs have ever denied the allegations.
“People jack my vibes. They love them. It’s not their fault. If I were not me, I would be jacking me too,” Blackface remarked, explaining that his unique style and creativity often make him a target.
He further clarified that while he understands the admiration for his work, the failure of these artists to properly credit him is where the problem lies.
“All my songs are being jacked because when you release a song, it becomes a published work. The songs are all registered. There’s no song that’s released that’s not registered. Once it is in the public domain, it’s a published work. Was it published before your work?”
Blackface, known for his vocal criticism of intellectual property theft in the Nigerian music scene, highlighted that his claims are not baseless. He pointed out that those he has accused have not publicly refuted his allegations, which he believes adds weight to his assertions.
“It’s not about whether I’ve viable proofs or not. The truth is that the action is wrong. So many Nigerian artists have jacked my songs. And these people that I’ve complained about, they have never for once denied it,” he said.
The artist’s comments reignite the conversation around copyright and proper credit in the Nigerian music industry, a topic that has sparked debate among fans and creatives alike.
