AC Milan’s former manager, Paulo Fonseca, has pointed to Samuel Chukwueze’s injury as a key factor in the team’s inability to secure a victory against AS Roma in their Serie A clash on Sunday. Chukwueze, who had been performing well in the first half, was forced to leave the pitch just two minutes into the second half due to injury, disrupting the team’s rhythm.

Fonseca noted that Milan had created several scoring opportunities in the first half, and the players showed strong effort. However, Chukwueze’s departure led to a shift in strategy, forcing the team to take more risks than planned. “We certainly deserved to win, yet we missed several chances,” he said after the match.

The 1-1 draw marked AC Milan’s sixth stalemate of the season, leaving them in seventh place, a worrying eight points behind Lazio, who sit in the fourth and final Champions League spot. The team is also a daunting 12 points behind their city rivals, Inter Milan, who are currently in the title race. Following the disappointing results, AC Milan announced Fonseca’s dismissal on Monday, December 30, after just six months in charge.

Meanwhile, former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker has predicted that Liverpool will win the 2024-2025 Premier League title. The Reds, under new manager Arne Slot, have been in sensational form, winning 14 of their 18 matches this season. Liverpool’s impressive 5-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday has left them with an eight-point lead over second-placed Nottingham Forest.

Lineker, discussing Liverpool’s title prospects on The Rest is Football podcast, stated, “They’ve been truly impressive. It’s hard to imagine anyone catching up with them now. They’re on an unstoppable path.”
