Most people celebrate 90 with a cake. Toshisuke Kanazawa celebrated his by stepping onstage and winning another bodybuilding title. The Hiroshima native claimed the 85-and-over division at the 2026 Japan Masters Bodybuilding Championships, finishing ahead of six other competitors and receiving a major ovation during the final posing round.
The Toshisuke Kanazawa bodybuilding victory adds another trophy to a remarkable career that spans decades. The win takes his tally of Japanese championships to 19. Kanazawa began bodybuilding at 20 and has competed for 70 years, though he took a decade-long break before returning to the stage in his 60s.
Despite reaching 90, Kanazawa says he still has bigger records in his sights. “I don’t think I’ll ever retire,” he told reporters after the win. He credited his longevity to daily training, clean eating, and a stubborn refusal to slow down. “Age is just a number. If you keep moving, you keep living.” The victory also drew a standing ovation from the crowd, with younger competitors lining up to shake his hand.
