Vogue Williams may be known for her glamorous public image, but the Irish model and media personality just made a surprising confession — she can’t stand her own name.
In a recent interview with The Daily Telegraph, the 39-year-old podcaster and mum of three admitted that she’s never felt quite right about being called Vogue.
“Vogue is just very, very tacky. It’s cigarettes and a Range Rover,” she said bluntly. “It’s not like [my mum] was some Jimi Hendrix kind of vibe person. She was very, very well behaved.”
Though she didn’t think much of it as a child, Vogue shared that things changed in her teens when the teasing began.
“Then around 18 and 19, it got cool again, and now I’m kind of going into the territory of, like, when I’m a granny, people saying, ‘Who? Granny Vogue?’”
Now a mum to Theodore (6), Gigi (5), and Otto (2) with husband Spencer Matthews, Vogue says that despite being in the spotlight, they’ve chosen to keep much of their family life private. And she’s becoming increasingly cautious about social media.
“To be honest, we keep a lot of stuff private. We’re open enough online,” she said. “I don’t have to be online too much. I think it’s become quite a negative landscape.”
Referencing the recent viral backlash faced by the Coldplay frontman’s relationship, Vogue pointed out how brutal online culture can be.
“That just wouldn’t have happened 15 years ago… and everyone forgets there are families behind that who are really struggling. We’re just turning it into memes.”
The My Therapist Ghosted Me host revealed that she’s been the target of online attacks herself and admitted they can take a toll — no matter how thick your skin is.
“I’ve been in the firing line of so many things… it can deeply affect you. There’s nothing you can control about it. You know your own truth.”
But even with all the negativity, she recently experienced a rare moment of grace — someone who had previously sent her a hurtful message came back, nearly two years later, to say sorry.
“She said, ‘I’m really sorry I was having such a bad day that day.’… I thought, fair play to you. You’ve actually come back after all that time and apologised – that’s really impressive.”
From brushing off childhood taunts to navigating digital fame as a mum, Vogue Williams is keeping it honest — tacky name or not.
