Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Shan George is officially back on the scene and ready to reclaim her space in the Nigerian film industry after years of being away.
The 54-year-old screen icon, known for her roles in classics like Outkast, A Kiss from Rose, and London Forever, revealed in a recent interview that her absence was due to a deeply personal reason—taking care of her ailing mother in Calabar. As an only child, George said she had no choice but to step back from the spotlight and focus entirely on her mother’s health.
“I’ve been away from the industry for a couple of years, based on the fact that my mother has been ill and bedridden. I had to leave everything to go and look after her back in Calabar,” she shared.
Shan George returned to Lagos in 2024 after her mother’s passing and has since been working steadily behind the scenes. She disclosed that she has already completed two movie projects since her return—Esther, a Biblical-inspired drama, and Cold Beauty. Both films are currently in post-production.
“These two movies right now, as I speak, are both cooking in the editing studio. I hope to release them very soon so that I can come back and let people know that Shan George is back,” she added enthusiastically.
In addition to her acting and filmmaking, Shan George is also the Founder and CEO of Divine Shield Film Academy—a tuition-free film school based in Calabar. The academy reflects her commitment to mentoring the next generation of filmmakers and actors from underrepresented communities.
Now serving as an executive in the Movie Producers Association of Nigeria (MOPAN), Shan George is re-entering Nollywood not just as a star, but as a leader ready to reshape the industry.
Her comeback is a heartfelt one—and fans can expect her signature passion, grit, and storytelling magic in the new projects she’s bringing to the screen.
