Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed his ambition to one day become the permanent manager of Manchester United, but for now, he’s content with his role as assistant coach until Ruben Amorim takes over next week.
The former United striker, who enjoyed a prolific career at Old Trafford, made his return to the club in the summer as an assistant to Erik ten Hag. Following Ten Hag’s dismissal on 28 October, Van Nistelrooy stepped up as interim manager, leading the team to two wins and one draw. His final match in charge will be Sunday’s Premier League clash against Leicester.
The 48-year-old has made no secret of his long-term ambitions to manage a top club, and Manchester United holds a special place in his heart. Van Nistelrooy confirmed that while he’s focused on supporting the team under his current capacity, he harbors a strong desire to take the helm at the Red Devils in the future.
Yeah, of course
Van Nistelrooy said when asked about his managerial ambitions.
I thought this through when I made the decision to come to United as an assistant manager. I knew it was a special occasion to be a part of this journey, even in an assistant role. I still have clear ambitions to manage, but I signed a two-year deal as an assistant and I’m committed to staying in this role for now.
With a wealth of experience from his playing days and a brief managerial stint at PSV Eindhoven, Van Nistelrooy’s future at Manchester United may very well involve leading the club one day. For now, however, his focus remains on guiding the team until Amorim takes over.
