What a wonderful way to end the year for Olamide who clinched three
awards at The Headies 2013 at Oriental Hotel, Lekki-Lagos last Thursday.
The event which kicked off almost five hours behind schedule had all
the glamour and elegance that marks it as one of the prestigious awards
in the entertainment industry.
Olamide certainly was the crowd favourite at the event as he won in
three out of the seven categories he was nominated in. He won the award
for the Best Album of the Year (YBNL), Best Street-Hop Artiste for the
song ‘Durosoke’, and Best Rap Album. Adding to his plethora of awards
for the night was the award for the “Best Collabo” which he won with
Phyno for the hit single “Ghost Mode”
Phyno also won in the category Best Rap Single for the song , “Man of the Year.”
It was also a night of firsts for the likes of D’Tunes who won Best
Producer with ‘Sho Lee’, Praiz who was decorated with Best Male Vocalist
for the song, ‘Rich and Famous’, and Blackmagic who won the Best
Alternative category with ‘Repete.’
For Sean Tizzle, it was hard to contain his joy when he was announced
the winner of the “Next Rated Act” and presented with a grand prize of a
brand new Hyundai Tucson SUV. He had to be literally chased off the
stage.
The show which was anchored by Mavin Records artistes, Dr. Sid and Tiwa
Savage had exciting award presenters including Mai Atafo, Stephanie
Coker, Yvonne Ekwere, Koch Okoye, Darey Art Alade, Kemi Adetiba, Chin
Okeke, Seyi Law, Lynxxx, Osas Ighodalo, Mercy Omo London, Toolz, Kelechi
Amadi Obi, Funmi Iyanda, IllBliss, Jumoke Awolade-James, Freeze, Tewa
Onasanya, Chris Ihidero among others.
The Headies 2013 was not lacking in fantastic performances from Iyanya,
Waje, Olamide, Phyno, Praiz, Seyi Shay, Niyola, Zaina and Yemi Alade,
However, it was not such a good night for Iyanya who carted away one
award for the night as the “Artiste of the Year” after being nominated
five times in different categories. Even his sensual waist performance
couldn’t get the crowd off their seats.
Burna Boy was so unlucky at The Headies this year. Although he was
nominated in four categories, he could not lift the trophy at any
instance. He reportedly stormed out of the venue before the end of the
show.
