Nollywood’s latest sensation, The Uprising: Wives on Strike 3, has taken the box office by storm, grossing an impressive N68.2 million in just its second weekend of release. Directed by the talented Omoni Oboli, this film continues the legacy of the beloved Wives on Strike series, captivating audiences with its mix of humor, drama, and social justice themes.

The film opened strong with a weekend debut of N28.2 million and maintained its momentum, earning an additional N27.2 million between October 25 and 31. Premiering on October 17, The Uprising made waves by amassing N40.1 million from its first three days alone, bolstered by N10 million in pre-sale vouchers that showcased the high anticipation for this installment.

Diverging from the series’ earlier lighthearted tone, The Uprising delves into darker themes as it follows a mother on a perilous mission to rescue her kidnapped son. The gripping plot immerses viewers in a narrative of courage, resilience, and sacrifice, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

What to Expect:

The Uprising shifts away from the franchise’s typical lighthearted approach, presenting a serious and intense storyline focused on familial love and sacrifice.

• The film features an all-star cast, including Nollywood favorites Uche Jombo, Ufuoma McDermott, Chioma Akpotha, and veteran Hilda Dokubo, alongside talents like Tomiwa Tegbe, Segun Arinze, Kalu Ikeagwu, Julius Agwu, and Okey Bakassi, all delivering powerful performances that elevate the emotional stakes.

• Marking Omoni Oboli’s return to directing after a five-year hiatus, this film celebrates her 10th anniversary in the industry. Teaming up with writer Cheta Chukwu, Oboli brings a fresh, impactful vision that pushes the boundaries of Nollywood storytelling.

With its successful run in Nigeria, The Uprising is set to premiere in the UK on November 8, courtesy of Nile Entertainment. The film not only highlights the evolution of the Wives on Strike franchise but also reflects the growing influence and depth of Nollywood cinema.
