Miley Cyrus has finally addressed the whispers surrounding her collaboration with Dua Lipa — and she’s keeping it honest, not shady.

“Prisoner” Didn’t Fit the Vibe, Miley Says

Cyrus revealed on the Every Single Album podcast that “Prisoner”, her 2020 collab with Dua Lipa, didn’t quite match the aesthetic of her glam rock album Plastic Hearts — even though it made the final cut.

“It wasn’t my idea [to have ‘Prisoner’ on my album] and no shade to Dua,” Miley explained. “But ‘Prisoner’ just isn’t cohesive with the album.”

She added that Dua would’ve been a better fit for her 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation, saying:

“She would’ve been great on Wildcard or River.”

This clarification comes amid fan speculation that Miley threw subtle shade at Dua on her new song “Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved”, which includes the lyrics:

“Speaks the perfect French / She can dance the night away / And still, she’ll never break a sweat.”

Given that Dua Lipa speaks French on Charli XCX and Troye Sivan’s Talk Talk remix and also released Dance the Night for the Barbie soundtrack, fans drew quick conclusions. But Miley’s comments make it clear: the song isn’t personal — it’s about artistic direction.

Miley on Child Stardom: “There Should Be Therapy”

Now 33, Miley also took a moment to reflect on the pressure cooker world of young celebrity, especially in the music industry. Drawing from her own experience as Hannah Montana, Miley spoke with The New York Times about the toll fame can take.

“Ariana [Grande] says there should be therapy for child actors, and I totally agree. There should be a weekly check-in.”

She says she’s been in consistent therapy since age 17, helping her unpack the trauma of early fame. But what really hit home for her recently was seeing rising pop star Sabrina Carpenter on an intense tour schedule.

“Every time I see her I have the urge to ask her if she’s OK… I know what it feels like to fry yourself, and I don’t want anyone else to get fried.”

Miley the Mentor?

With her candid take on mental health and the industry’s demands, Miley sounds more like a big sister to the next wave of pop talent. She’s walked the walk — and now she’s talking the talk, warning about burnout and pushing for support structures that never existed when she started.

Whether it’s Dua Lipa or Sabrina Carpenter, one thing’s clear: Miley Cyrus isn’t here for fake industry friendships or silence — she’s all about authenticity, artistry, and making sure the next generation stays standing.
