Marvel’s Blade and Deadpool 4 Delayed Again as Studio Slows Down Superhero Slate

Marvel Studios is hitting the brakes on two of its most anticipated projects — the long-delayed Blade reboot and a potential Deadpool 4 — as part of a broader effort to scale back on superhero content.

According to Variety, the Mahershala Ali-led Blade film, which has been in development since 2019, may not begin production until 2026, despite mounting fan anticipation. Sources claim Marvel is no longer rushing the project as it reevaluates its release strategy amid changing audience expectations and a recent dip in superhero box office dominance.

Blade

 Still in Limbo

The Blade reboot, set to star two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, continues to face an uncertain future. After cycling through multiple directors — including Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange — and several screenwriters like Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Beau DeMayo, and Michael Green, the film still has no director or official release date.

Several actors, including Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo, have exited the project, while it remains unclear if Mia Goth and Milan Ray are still attached after years of delays. The film has now been stuck in development for over six years, raising doubts about whether it will ever make it to the big screen.

What About

Deadpool 4

?

After the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024, fans hoped Marvel would quickly greenlight a fourth Deadpool film. But the studio appears to be taking its time. Marvel president Kevin Feige has confirmed that discussions are ongoing with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, but no official announcements have been made regarding their return.

At this time, there is no confirmed timeline for Deadpool 4, and the next appearance of either Reynolds’ Deadpool or Jackman’s Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains up in the air.

Why the Slowdown?

This shift is part of Marvel Studios’ new strategy to scale back and refocus after a period of rapid content production, particularly on Disney+. The studio is reportedly reassessing the volume and frequency of its superhero films and shows to ensure higher quality and stronger storytelling.

So while fans may be eager to see Blade slice into the MCU or Deadpool crack a few more R-rated jokes, it looks like both franchises are on Marvel’s long game calendar — with no guaranteed return anytime soon.

Bottom line: If you were hoping to see Blade or Deadpool 4 on the big screen soon, prepare for a longer wait.
