Social activist Martins Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man (VDM), has caused an uproar online after addressing the recent controversy surrounding his NGO’s alleged missing funds.
In a video posted this morning, VDM revealed that the claim about the missing N180 million was entirely fabricated. He stated that the stunt was a deliberate attempt to expose what he called the gullibility of social media users.
According to him, the money donated to his NGO remains untouched and secure. VDM explained:
“80% of the people that use social media are dumb, and the whole thing that happened with the N180 million is a clear opportunity to show you. I deliberately did it to just show you people that you are stupid. No money is missing, my money is secured.”
VDM added that his team shut down the NGO’s website temporarily to fuel the narrative and observe reactions. He expressed shock at how quickly people accepted the claim without seeking evidence.
“Nobody bothered to ask for evidence. They just went with what is being said. I am so happy I did this,”he said, criticizing the excitement many displayed over the possibility of wrongdoing.
The revelation has sparked heated debates online, with some applauding him for exposing social media herd mentality, while others condemned the tactic as misleading and harmful to trust in NGOs.
The video has left many questioning the ethics of such “social experiments” and the broader implications for public trust in charity organizations.
