Former queen of the Ooni of Ife, Prophetess Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi, has reportedly embarked on a hunger strike while in custody, causing deep worry among her loved ones. Naomi’s mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Oginseyi, revealed the ex-queen’s deteriorating state during a recent visit, painting a picture of a woman grappling with sadness and physical exhaustion.
“She wasn’t feeling fine. She’s heartbroken about everything,” Mrs. Oginseyi shared. “Naomi has always been someone who loves children and dedicates herself to helping single mothers, widows, and the less privileged. Losing those children has devastated her because her intentions were pure.”
According to Mrs. Oginseyi, Naomi has grown noticeably emaciated in the Agodi custodial facility, refusing to eat despite her mother’s pleas. “I begged her to eat, but she wouldn’t. The environment isn’t comfortable, and she is deeply affected by the tragedy involving the children.”
The tragic incident has also implicated Oriyomi Hamzat, the founder of Agidigbo Radio, and Mr. Abdullahi, the principal of the school where the event occurred. All three were charged in court on December 24 and ordered to remain in custody until their next hearing on January 13, 2025.
Naomi’s supporters continue to rally behind her, citing her long-standing reputation for charity and compassion. The circumstances surrounding the case remain under scrutiny, leaving many wondering how such a figure of goodwill ended up in such dire straits.
