Demi Lovato is officially back — and she’s bringing pop with her.
The Grammy-nominated singer has released “Fast,” her first single in three years, marking a major return to her pop roots after exploring a rock-inspired sound on her 2022 album Holy Fvck. The upbeat electro-pop track dropped on Friday, August 1st, and already has fans celebrating the return of the old Demi.
Lovato had previously declared the “death” of her pop era, even holding a mock “funeral” for it with a viral photo showing her and her team dressed in black, flipping off the camera. But with “Fast,” she’s making it clear that pop is not only alive — it’s thriving.
She teased the single on social media, writing: “My pop music coming back to life after we had a funeral for it.” The track signals a fresh, playful energy, and according to insiders, it reflects Demi’s current mindset — a place of happiness, love, and creative freedom.
Her last album Holy Fvck featured heavy rock influences and singles like “Skin of My Teeth” and “29,” but Fast marks a sonic shift toward lighter, more danceable material. Rolling Stone recently confirmed that Demi’s next full album — her ninth studio release — is expected later this year, and will fully embrace pop once more.
The upcoming album is being crafted alongside producer/songwriter Zhone, who described working with Lovato as “inspiring,” noting that the music is all about “letting inhibitions go.” He added: “She is such a master in the studio. This album is about fun, and it really comes across.”
Sources close to the singer echoed that sentiment, revealing that Demi is now in a joyful and confident chapter of her life. After marrying longtime partner Jordan ‘Jutes’ Lutes in May, she’s been writing love songs and “sexy songs,” as she described in a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“It feels good to be able to write from a place of love,” she told Fallon. “I’ve been writing nothing but love songs and sexy songs because I’m in this really good place.”
With “Fast,” Demi Lovato sets the tone for a new era — one filled with high energy, confidence, and a return to the catchy, emotional pop that first made her a star.
