Adam Sandler Tops Forbes 2025 Highest-Paid Actors List

Adam Sandler has done it again. The 59-year-old comedian and producer secured the No. 1 position on Forbes’ 2025 list of the world’s highest-paid actors, pulling in $48 million and proving that streaming era dominance looks nothing like traditional Hollywood stardom.

Sandler’s second consecutive year atop the rankings stems directly from his lucrative ongoing partnership with Netflix. Unlike traditional box office stars whose paychecks depend on ticket sales, Sandler receives guaranteed eight-figure paydays regardless of how his films perform theatrically. His projects consistently rank among Netflix’s most-watched originals, making him one of the platform’s most reliable draws.

Sandler didn’t just cash checks in 2025; he delivered creatively, too. He produced and starred in “Happy Gilmore 2,” the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 sports comedy that fans had begged for over nearly three decades. He also teamed with George Clooney in the Netflix film “Jay Kelly,” a performance that earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

That critical recognition matters. For years, Sandler balanced broad comedies with dramatic roles that reminded audiences of his range. The “Jay Kelly” nomination validated what fans always knew there’s real craft behind the silliness.

Behind Sandler, the list reads like a who’s who of Hollywood royalty. Tom Cruise landed at No. 2 with $46 million, powered by “Mission: Impossible, The Final Reckoning” and an unusually generous box office profit participation deal. At 63, Cruise continues proving that practical stunts and theatrical commitment still pay.

Mark Wahlberg followed at No. 3 with $44 million from streaming projects across Apple TV and Prime Video, including “The Family Plan” and Mel Gibson’s “Flight Risk”. Scarlett Johansson ranked fourth with $43 million after starring in “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme,” and making her directorial debut with “Eleanor the Great”. Brad Pitt rounded out the top five with $41 million thanks to the racing drama “F1,” which earned a Best Picture nomination at the 2026 Academy Awards.

The most striking entry belongs to Millie Bobby Brown. At just 22 years old, the “Stranger Things” star earned $26 million, making her the youngest actor ever to appear on Forbes’ highest-paid list.

Brown’s historic moment reflects a changing industry. She represents the first generation of streaming-native stars who built global fame without traditional theatrical breakthroughs. The fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” dominated Netflix viewership in 2025, while her sci-fi film “The Electric State” opposite Chris Pratt further cemented her draw. From Eleven at 11 years old to a top ten earner at 22, her trajectory defies every industry norm.

Despite massive individual paydays, the overall numbers tell a sobering story. The combined income of Hollywood’s top 20 actors reached $590 million in 2025, down roughly 20% from $730 million the previous year. Industry analysts point to fewer major star-driven releases, declining theatrical ticket sales, and streaming platforms tightening budgets after years of aggressive spending.

Dwayne Johnson earned $88 million in 2024 as the top earner. Sandler’s $48 million would have placed him fifth that year. The gap reflects real contraction across the entertainment industry.

Rounding out the rankings: Denzel Washington at No. 6 with $38 million, Jack Black and Jason Momoa tied at No. 7 with $28 million each, Daniel Craig at No. 9 with $27 million, and Brown at No. 10.

Washington, 71, starred in Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest.” Black and Momoa teamed for “A Minecraft Movie” and the “Anaconda” reboot. Craig returned as Benoit Blanc in Netflix’s “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery”.

Two trends emerge from the 2025 list. First, streaming partnerships now drive earnings as much as theatrical blockbusters. Sandler’s Netflix deal, Wahlberg’s Apple and Prime Video projects, and Craig’s “Knives Out” franchise all prove that the biggest checks come from platforms hungry for reliable engagement.

Second, the old guard still dominates. Nine of the top ten earners are over 40. Seven are over 50. Hollywood’s younger generations haven’t yet cracked the earning power of the stars who defined the 1990s and 2000s. Brown’s historic entry offers hope for change, but she remains the exception, not the rule.

For Sandler, the message is clear: loyalty pays. His Netflix partnership, now spanning multiple films and millions of viewers, transformed him from a dependable comedy star into the highest-paid actor in the world. Not bad for the guy who once sang about lunch lady land.
