The youngest daughter of former Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is taking formal steps to distance herself from her father’s surname. Upon turning 18, Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt officially filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court to legally alter her name to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. According to court documents obtained on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the teen listed her reasoning for the legal name change simply as “personal,” with a formal court hearing scheduled for November 2.

Vivienne’s decision to drop her paternal surname follows a clear, ongoing pattern among the six Jolie-Pitt children. Over recent years, her older siblings have each taken active legal and public steps to drop “Pitt” in favor of using “Jolie” exclusively:

• Shiloh Jolie: Formally filed a petition upon turning 18 in May 2024, which was officially approved by a judge later that summer.

• Maddox Jolie: Filed court documents in May 2026 to legally change his full name to Maddox Chivan Jolie.

• Zahara Jolie: Submitted legal paperwork in June 2026 to change her legal moniker to Zahara Marley Jolie.

• Knox Jolie: Vivienne’s twin brother quietly signaled the family shift by using “Knox Jolie” on his high school graduation diploma.

While this marks Vivienne’s first official courtroom petition, the theater enthusiast previously signaled her preference regarding her last name. Back in May 2024, at age 15, she was credited strictly as “Vivienne Jolie” in the official Playbill program for Broadway’s The Outsiders, a Tony Award-winning musical she helped produce alongside her mother.

The collective wave of name modifications arrives a decade after Angelina Jolie initially filed for divorce in September 2016. Following years of complex custody negotiations and legal battles, all six children—who now reside with Jolie—have overwhelmingly aligned themselves with their mother’s family identity as they transition into adulthood.
