The entertainment and comedy worlds are mourning the loss of veteran actor and stand-up comedian Reggie McFadden, who has passed away at the age of 57. His sister, author Bernice McFadden, confirmed the tragic news to The Hollywood Reporter, stating that the family was notified by the U.S. State Department that he passed away in Tanzania. McFadden had been living in Tanzania for roughly 18 years, though family members noted that the exact date and cause of death remain unknown.
Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, McFadden rose to national prominence during the golden era of 1990s television. He earned his major career breakthrough on HBO’s hit series Def Comedy Jam in the early 1990s, captivating audiences with his sharp wit and high-energy stage presence.
His breakout success paved the way for a string of notable television roles. McFadden secured guest-starring and recurring appearances on iconic shows including Martin, Hanging with Mr. Cooper, Moesha, Coach, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. He later joined the groundbreaking sketch comedy series In Living Color as a writer and performer during its final season, leaving a lasting impression with memorable sketches like “Wheel of Dozens” and the “Dirty Dozens Tournament of Champions.”
