The legal management of one of the most valuable catalogs in music history has entered a new chapter. Quincy Jones III, the acclaimed producer and composer known professionally as QD3, has been officially named the executor of his father’s vast estate. This transition follows the passing of the legendary Quincy Jones Sr. in late 2024 and marks a pivotal moment in the preservation of a career that spanned seven decades and earned 28 Grammy Awards.

The appointment of Quincy Jones III comes after several family members, including his sister Rashida Jones and his uncle Richard Jones, reportedly declined the responsibility. According to recent court filings in Los Angeles, Richard Jones was the primary choice listed in the will, but he opted to step aside, paving the way for the younger Quincy to take the lead. This move ensures that the estate remains under the direct stewardship of a family member with deep roots in the music and entertainment industry.

Even before this official appointment, the estate had been active in securing the legendary producer’s financial future. In March 2026, the estate finalized a landmark deal with HarbourView Equity Partners. This agreement involved the sale of select music and non-music assets, including rights to recorded music, publishing, and interests in iconic television properties like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The partnership with HarbourView is specifically designed to protect his work from unauthorized uses, including emerging concerns around artificial intelligence.

As the lead in managing the Quincy Jones legacy, Quincy Jones III has emphasized a commitment to innovation and education. He has publicly stated that his father’s work was never just about hits, but about building cultural platforms. The family remains dedicated to ensuring that the “Quincy Jones” name continues to represent excellence in storytelling and musical mastery for future generations. With QD3 at the helm, the industry expects a balance between honoring traditional values and embracing modern technology to keep the catalog relevant.
