One of the most powerful and recognizable fashion moments of the 20th century is returning to the spotlight.

Nearly three decades after it was last sold, Princess Diana’s legendary black silk “Revenge Dress” is heading to auction.

The Auction Details: The iconic Christina Stambolian creation will headline a standalone fashion evening auction during Sotheby’s Luxury Week in New York on December 9, 2026.

Estimated Value: Pre-sale estimates value the historic gown between $150,000 and $300,000 (£110,000 to £220,000).

Global Exhibition Tour: Before the live sale, the dress will embark on an international tour, making public stops in London, Hong Kong, and Geneva.

The dress earned its famous moniker on June 29, 1994, when Diana wore the off-the-shoulder gown to a Vanity Fair event at the Serpentine Gallery.

The Backdrop: The appearance famously coincided with the broadcast of a television interview in which then-Prince Charles publicly confessed to his infidelity.

Charitable Impact: True to the late princess’s philanthropic legacy, a portion of the proceeds from the upcoming sale will be donated to NHS Lothian Charity on behalf of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
