The rollout for Olivia Rodrigo’s highly anticipated third studio album just shifted into high gear. Taking to social media on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Grammy-winning pop star officially announced that her brand-new single, “The Cure,” will drop this Friday, May 22.

The Olivia Rodrigo new single The Cure 2026 announcement gives fans a second taste of her upcoming full-length project, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which is officially scheduled to land on streaming platforms and record store shelves on June 12, 2026.

To build anticipation, Rodrigo shared a striking close-up photograph on Instagram revealing the track’s official single artwork. In the snapshot, the singer is seen sporting a bubblegum-pink top while playing a game of cat’s cradle with a thick piece of red string that deliberately twists to spell out the track’s title.

Alongside the artwork, Rodrigo attached an emotional, high-energy caption expressing just how much the new material means to her personally.

“‘the cure’ comes out this friday,” Rodrigo wrote to her millions of followers. “it’s my favorite song on the album and one of my favorite songs I’ve ever made. couldn’t be more excited for you guys to hear it. presave up now ❤️ ❤️.”

The track will serve as the official second single of the era, directly following up her chart-topping lead single, “Drop Dead,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 following its release in mid-April.

The expansive title of the 13-track record, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, breaks away from the one-word, four-letter naming conventions of her record-breaking previous albums, SOUR (2021) and GUTS (2023). According to insiders, the phrase was born in the studio when her longtime executive producer, Dan Nigro, playfully teased her about the emotional direction of her new songwriting.

In an interview with British Vogue earlier this spring, Rodrigo confirmed that the project heavily leans into a “smooth, trippy soft rock” space, taking massive sonic and lyrical inspiration from her extended stays living in London.

“No matter how hard I try to write love songs, they always come out laced with a little melancholy,” Rodrigo shared in a recent newsletter to fans, explaining that her favorite romantic tracks historically derive their power from an undercurrent of underlying longing, fear, or vulnerability.

With physical 7-inch vinyl and cassette editions of “The Cure” already up for pre-order on her official webstore—complete with an exclusive B-side demo track titled “Never Do”—Rodrigo is officially set to dominate the summer soundtrack as her new alternative-pop universe unfolds.
