More than nine years after director Michael Bay stepped away from the blockbuster franchise, major changes are brewing at Paramount. According to reports from Deadline, both Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg are set to return to the Transformers universe for an upcoming installment.
Bay directed the first five live-action films in the massive sci-fi franchise, beginning with the 2007 original up through 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight. Meanwhile, Spielberg served as an executive producer on the early films and is now stepping back into a hands-on creative and producing role.
Following subsequent entries like Bumblebee and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts under different directors, studio leadership is looking to recapture the blockbuster energy of the original films. Reports indicate that Bay is currently in early talks to direct the new project, which features a script penned by Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman, It: Welcome to Derry).
As Paramount reshapes its major intellectual properties following recent studio realignments, bringing back the franchise’s foundational creative team signals a major push to revitalize the brand. While an official release date has not yet been locked in, fans are already buzzing about what kind of explosive, high-octane action the iconic duo will bring to the modern-day setting.
