Kacey Musgraves is making the road to Indio a little more musical. Ahead of her highly anticipated return to the Coachella stage, the seven-time Grammy winner has confirmed she will release “Middle of Nowhere,” the title track of her upcoming seventh studio album, this Friday, April 17, 2026.
The release serves as a double celebration for fans. Earlier this week, Coachella organizers stunned the festival circuit by adding Musgraves as a surprise performer for Weekend 2. This marks her first time back at the polo fields since 2019. To tease the performance and the Kacey Musgraves Middle of Nowhere title track release, Musgraves shared a playful Instagram video of herself driving through the desert, captioned: “Somewhere on the way to ☆ Coachella ☆.”
The upcoming album, Middle of Nowhere, is set to drop in full on May 1, 2026, via the newly revived Lost Highway Records. Musgraves has described the project as a deep dive into “liminal space”—the geographical and emotional transitions that define being between chapters.
• Inspiration: The title was inspired by a real sign in her tiny hometown of Golden, Texas, which reads: “Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere.”
• The Sound: Expect a return to her Texas roots, featuring pedal steel, accordion, and dancehall rhythms, blended with influences of Norteño and Zydeco.
Musgraves is scheduled to take over the Mojave Tent on Saturday, April 18, from 3:00 to 3:50 p.m. She steps into the high-profile slot previously occupied by Jack White during Weekend 1. Fans are speculating that Friday’s single release means the title track will be a centerpiece of her setlist, potentially marking its live debut alongside the lead single, “Dry Spell.”
While the title track is a solo effort, the full Middle of Nowhere album is a star-studded affair. The tracklist includes massive collaborations with country legends and folk favorites:
• “Horses and Divorces” feat. Miranda Lambert
• “Uncertain, TX” feat. Willie Nelson
• “Everybody Wants to Be a Cowboy” feat. Billy Strings
• “Coyote” feat. Gregory Alan Isakov
