On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, BET revealed the highly anticipated nominees for the 2026 BET Awards, setting the stage for an explosive celebration of Black excellence across music, television, film, and sports. Leading the pack this year is none other than Bronx rap icon Cardi B, who secured the top spot as the most-nominated artist of the year.
The Cardi B Kendrick Lamar Mariah the Scientist BET Awards nominations 2026 announcement sets up a highly competitive race, with Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist tying for a close second with five nominations each. The star-studded event is scheduled to air live from Los Angeles on Sunday, June 28, 2026, with comedian and internet personality Druski serving as the master of ceremonies.
Fueled by the massive success of her latest album, AM I THE DRAMA?, Cardi B enters the 2026 cycle with six total nominations. The Grammy winner proved her versatility by dominating both solo and collaborative fields, landing nods for Album of the Year, Best Female Hip Hop Artist, and Viewers’ Choice for her track “Outside.”
Her massive cultural impact on visual media and style was also recognized, earning her a nomination for Video Director of the Year alongside Patientce Foster, as well as a spot in BET’s brand-new category, the Fashion Vanguard Award.
While Cardi holds the crown for total numbers, the competition is breathing down her neck. Fresh off an incredibly dominant run on the charts, Kendrick Lamar locked in five nominations. The Compton lyricist is up for Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year for his SZA collaboration “Luther,” and double nods in the Best Collaboration and Viewers’ Choice categories for his work on Clipse’s hard-hitting track “Chains & Whips.”
Matching Kendrick’s five nods is R&B siren Mariah the Scientist, whose critically acclaimed project HEARTS SOLD SEPARATELY earned her a coveted nomination for Album of the Year. She is also a heavy contender for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Video of the Year for “Burning Blue,” and Best Collaboration for her sultry duet with Kali Uchis, “Is It a Crime.”
“All of our nominees represent the very best of Black culture across music, film, sports, and beyond,” Connie Orlando, EVP of specials, music programming, and music strategy at BET, shared in a statement.
Beyond the top three powerhouses, the 2026 nominations highlight a deeply diverse and global landscape. Trailing the leaders closely with four nominations each are breakout stars and legacy acts alike, including Doechii, Doja Cat, Latto, Teyana Taylor, Clipse, and Olivia Dean.
The international categories are also shaping up to be fierce battlegrounds, with Afrobeats royalty making a massive splash. Tems leads the African contingent with three nominations including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist while Burna Boy scored a nod for his Gunna collaboration “WGFT.” Adding to the excitement, Wizkid and Asake secured a historic joint nomination in the Best Group category following their incredibly successful run of collaborative hits.
With the addition of forward-thinking categories like the Fashion Vanguard Award and the podcast-focused Pulse Award, the 2026 BET Awards are cementing themselves as an essential reflection of how contemporary Black creators continue to completely move the needle of global mainstream culture.
