In a surprise announcement during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige revealed that the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame is returning to theaters nationwide on September 25, 2026.
Re-titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, the expanded cut is positioned not merely as a nostalgic re-release, but as a “critical companion story” designed to establish key plotlines for December 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday.
Co-director Joe Russo confirmed that the Encore edition includes approximately seven minutes of additional, never-before-seen footage integrated directly into the narrative.
Direct Narrative Bridge: The new sequence weaves scenes set in the Doomsday storyline straight into the closing events of Endgame, linking the Infinity Saga’s climax to the Multiverse Saga’s next chapter.
“Time Messes Back”: The updated trailer features a retconned line of dialogue from Tony Stark (“You mess with time, it tends to mess back”), highlighting how the original 2019 Time Heist triggers the catastrophic multiversal events leading to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Exclusive Theater Format: In addition to a custom introduction, screenings in IMAX and Infinity Vision formats will present an exclusive end-tag scene hinting at the state of the MCU heading into December.
“It’s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way,” Joe Russo explained. “We can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years.”
With Avengers: Doomsday scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, Marvel Studios is pitching Endgame Encore as essential viewing for MCU fans.
By providing new context surrounding time travel consequences and setting up Doctor Doom’s entrance, the September re-release serves as the official launchpad for the Multiverse Saga’s final phase.
Tickets for Avengers: Endgame Encore go on sale in August across major theater chains.
