The legal aftermath of the tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has intensified as the Anthony Joshua driver prosecution becomes a central focus for Nigerian authorities. The driver of the black Lexus SUV, who survived the collision that killed two of Joshua’s closest associates, was officially discharged from Duchess International Hospital on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

According to the Nigerian Police Force spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the driver is currently in custody providing an official statement. Preliminary investigations by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) suggest that the Anthony Joshua driver prosecution will hinge on “excessive speed” and a “wrongful overtaking maneuver.” Officials stated that a front tyre burst at high speed, causing the vehicle to lose control and ram into a stationary truck.

While Anthony Joshua who was seated in the rear sustained a leg fracture and minor injuries, his strength coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latz Ayodele died on the spot. The truck driver involved in the incident reportedly fled the scene and has since been declared wanted. Authorities emphasized that traveling beyond the legal speed limit constitutes a serious criminal liability when fatalities are involved. As the “Detty December” celebrations turn somber, the boxing world awaits the formal filing of charges in this developing case.
