Disney fans have been left stunned by a new theory suggesting that some of the beloved princesses’ personalities may actually reflect mental health disorders. This revelation came after psychologist Dr. Joshua Yager conducted a study on Disney films, uncovering a recurring theme in the characters’ behaviors.

Podcast hosts Jana Rosenberg and Carter Kench recently discussed this theory on their show, Allegedly Speaking, which quickly went viral on TikTok. In their analysis, they claim that many Disney princesses exhibit traits linked to psychological conditions. For example, they suggest that Belle from Beauty and the Beast displays signs of Stockholm Syndrome, as she falls in love with her captor.

The hosts also pointed out that Alice in Wonderland could be depicting schizophrenia, given Alice’s interactions with bizarre, talking creatures and her disorienting experiences in Wonderland. Meanwhile, The Little Mermaid’s Ariel is said to demonstrate hoarding behaviors due to her obsession with collecting discarded human objects, along with signs of body dysmorphia.

While these theories have shocked many fans, some have found them surprisingly relatable, as they offer a new lens through which to view the princesses. Whether or not these interpretations are intended by the creators, they certainly add a layer of depth to the beloved characters’ stories.
